Healthcare science: A catalyst for delivering a new healthcare system

The VPH Institute Executive Director, Marco Viceconti, gave a presentation on the VPH during “Healthcare science” a major event for healthcare scientists held in London on Monday 30th April & Tuesday 1st May 2012.

“Healthcare science: A catalyst for delivering a new healthcare system” provides a unique opportunity to hear and engage with leading figures from the Department of Health, NHS and other major healthcare organisations about the key issues for healthcare scientists.

Developed by the NHS SHA Cluster Scientific Directors and senior healthcare scientists from the Health Protection Agency and NHS Blood & Transplant, the event focused on the critical role that healthcare scientists need to play in delivering better outcomes for patients and the public.

The event highlighted how healthcare scientists need to use their leadership skills to effectively influence at a local level, how they can drive forward the innovation agenda, can use new education and training programmes to support new ways of working and use science and knowledge to improve practice.

The session, coordinated by Wendy Tindale, Scientific Director of the Sheffield Teaching Hospital and member of the Board of the new Sheffield INSIGNEO Institute for in silico medicine, included talks by Marco Viceconti and by Julian Gunn, a cardiologist involved in various VPH initiatives.

Tindale, Viceconti and Gunn's presentationscan be found here.
