The REALM-AI consortium (R&I action on Real-world data enabled assessment for health regulatory decisions) held its General Assembly in Warsaw, Poland, from 23 to 25 June 2025.
The GA was chaired by project coordinators Dr Gökhan Ertaylan (VITO, Belgium) and Prof. Dr Michel Dumontier (Institute of Data Science, University of Maastricht). The event was hosted by Professor Dominika Harasimiuk, a legal scholar and WP leader for Legal and Ethical aspects of AI technologies at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw.
During the assembly, the VPH team provided an update on stakeholder engagement activities. Janaki Raman R, Scientific Officer of VPH, shared valuable stakeholder perspectives from the RAPSEuroConvergence, highlighting the emergence of AI sandboxes and testbeds across the EU. The consortium enthusiastically received these initiatives, recognising that EU testing facilities evolutions, align perfectly with REALM's goal: to build a federated platform for independently benchmarking AI-based medical device software for regulators, HTA bodies, and technology developers. To that end, VPH shared stakeholder needs and offered insights into expectations on the credibility of testing facilities, like REALM platform.
Overall, the meeting provided updates on current developments and the pathway for implementing national nodes. We look forward to bringing these observations and valuable learnings to the REALM Academy, where VPH will continue to foster meaningful engagement with key stakeholders, ultimately ensuring technological advancements benefit end-users.
