Commission seeks candidates for the European Research Council’s (ERC) Scientific Council

Interested candidates can submit their application through until 6 May.

The Scientific Council plays a major role in developing the ERC’s work programme, its implementation and accordingly in the funding calls included within. In light of this, the ERC follows a bottom-up approach which supports academics in their research advancements rather than being influenced by political goals. This encourages funding that is directed toward new and promising research areas, such as computer modelling and simulation.

Key points

  • In 2020, the European Commission created the independent Standing Identification Committee, which is searching for applicants willing to join the Scientific Council of the ERC.
  • After considering suggestions from the Identification Committee, the European Commission will select the members of the Scientific Council of the ERC.
  • Maryia Gabriel, the Commissioner for Research, Innovation, Culture, Education and Youth is encouraging European research institutions to nominate applicants to the Scientific Council. The Identification Committee is communicating with representative organisations of the European research community, requesting for the nomination of excellent applicants.
  • The Scientific Council consists of 22 scientists and researchers representing the European scientific community.
