The Avicenna Alliance is pleased to announce its November Monthly Webinar, featuring Dr. Marco Evangelos Biancolini from RBF Morph, who will present on “Real-Time Medical Digital Twins: Geometry, Simulation, and Immersive Interaction.”

Medical Digital Twins are transforming modern healthcare by uniting geometry, simulation, and imaging data into dynamic, interactive tools that enhance diagnosis and therapeutic planning. In this session, Dr. Biancolini will demonstrate how RBF Morph enables the development of real-time medical Digital Twins, accessible across multiple platforms — from desktop and web interfaces to specialized medical software, embedded imaging systems, and immersive virtual reality environments.

Powered by proprietary Reduced Order Model (ROM) technology, these applications run wirelessly on cutting-edge devices such as the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro, offering unprecedented mobility and intuitive interaction.

A highlight of the webinar will be the ROMed2VR project, which showcases an interactive surgical planning tool for neonatal patients undergoing modified Blalock–Taussig shunt correction. This case study illustrates how real-time geometry manipulation and simulation can revolutionize surgical planning, providing new ways to explore, plan, and optimize procedures — paving the way for transformative advances in both clinical practice and medical research.

About the Speaker

Dr. Marco Evangelos Biancolini is an Associate Professor of Machine Design at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His research focuses on fast radial basis functions, mesh morphing, and reduced order models for Digital Twins. He is the developer of the RBF Morph industrial software, a partner of Ansys, and a member of the Technet Alliance. Since 2020, he has led the H2020 project “Medical Digital Twins for Aneurysm Prevention and Treatment” (MeDiTATe) as principal investigator.
