Auckland Bioengineering Institute team headed by the VPHi board member, Prof Hunter, is collaborating with Fraunhofer in the development of an intelligent arm brace with flexing elbow that can micic the movements of a real arm.

An intelligent arm brace adding extra muscle by flexing, as we do, will be created in a landmark German-Kiwi collaboration.

In a three-year partnership announced yesterday, bio-engineers from the University of Auckland will work with leading scientists at the Stuttgart-based Fraunhofer, one of the largest research organisations of its kind in the world.

Smart technology developed in New Zealand will prove central to the lightweight exoskeleton, which resembles a normal arm brace but mimics the movements of a human arm as the elbow is flexed....
