University of Oxford invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Professor Sarah Waters for 30 months, funded by MRC. The postholder will contribute to an exciting multidisciplinary project to develop new mathematical models of cell therapies for liver disease, and will be based in Professor Waters' research group at the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, here at the Mathematical Institute.
The successful applicant will develop, analyse and solve new mathematical models for cell therapies for liver disease, and determine the impact on cell delivery route on the biomechanical cues experienced by the cells during their transit to the injury site. They will also develop mathematical models to describe the cross talk between the resulting delivered cells and their biochemical environment at the injury site. In addition to their research, the postholder will be given the opportunity to undertake teaching, which will not exceed 3 hours per week for 24 weeks per annum.
Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in the mathematical modelling of physical systems, ordinary (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs), and the skills for solving ODES and PDEs using either analytical or numerical methods. Candidates must also show they are willing to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, and are able to communicate their ideas to others outside of their own field.
