Horizon 2020- Call for FET Flagships Tackling Grand Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Challenges- New deadline

The Commission has announced that Mr. Robert-Jan Smits, Director General of DG Research has decided to postpone the call for the FET Flagships Tackling Grand Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Challenges by two months. The new deadline for the call is 10 June 2014.

This call comes within the remit of the Excellent Science Pillar and the main project of note contained within the call is FETFLAG 3 - 2015: Human Brain Project FET Flagship Core Project. The indicated budget for this call is EUR1, 600,000

The Expected impact of this call includes the following:

  • The development of new diagnostic tools and treatments for brain diseases
  • Contribution to the strategic goal of the HBP FET Flagship and the realisation of its research roadmap.
  • Transformational impact on science and technology and substantial benefits for the European economy and society in the area of neuroscience, brain medicine and neuromorphic computing.
  • European leadership in the area of neuroscience, brain medicine and neuromorphic computing.
  • Strengthening the interfaces between the involved disciplines.

This call is noteworthy for VPH given that the Human Brain Project (HBP) bears a resemblance the Virtual Physiological Human, but on a smaller scale. HBP may be of particular interest as the development of innovative diagnostic tools may potentially be used in the field of personalised medicine and thus contribute to the creation of patient-specific computer models for personalised and predictive healthcare.
