Developing AI at the heart of European rights and freedoms

In a recent article posted on her blog, Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director General of DIGITAL EUROPE and member of the AI high level group, talks about Artificial Intelligence’s potential and the importance of gender balance and the role of ethics.

DIGITAL EUROPE is the European organisation that represents the digital technology industry whose members include 60 major technology companies and 37 national trade associations from across Europe.

The European AI Alliance is a forum engaged in a broad and open discussion of all aspects of Artificial Intelligence development and its impacts. Members of the European AI Alliance can interact with the experts of the High Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLEG), established by the European Commission, in a forum-style setting.

Key points

Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl stated that health and manufacturing are two vertical sectors in Europe that will benefit greatly from human-centered AI. It can boost all indicators from safety to efficiency, reduce costs or save lives. She explained that the European AI Alliance has a difficult to perform for the guidelines on the important ethical issues that AI technologies can pose. But that the forum could deliver concrete and practical guidance in order to assist AI development in the EU as well as on international level.
