EIC Pilot to invest €124 million

The projects will receive €124 million under the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET Open) strand of the EIC pilot, run under the EU’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.

Among the examples of the challenges that these projects are targeting, we can find several ones related to healthcare:

• A Body Scan for Cancer Detection using Quantum Technology;
  
• Fluorescence and Reactive oxygen Intermediates by Neutron Generated electronic Excitation as a foundation for radically new cancer therapies;
  
• Next-generation theranostics of brain pathologies with autonomous externally controllable nano networks: a trans-disciplinary approach with bio-nano device interfaces;
  
• Integrated Qubits Towards Future High-Temperature Silicon Quantum Computing Hardware Technologies;
  
• BRInGing nano-pHoTonics into the brain;
  
• Light and Organic Nanotechnology for Cardiovascular Disease;
  
• “One size fits all'' unique drug to eradicate multiple viral species simultaneously from the central nervous system of co-infected individuals;
  
• Super-sensitive detection of Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers in plasma by an innovative droplet split- and-stack approach;
  
• Self-HEaling soft Robotics;
  

Background

Between 2018 and 2020, the EIC pilot will provide €2.7 billion to breakthrough, market-creating supporting top-class scientists, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and small companies. It continues to mobilise European researchers and innovators from all disciplines to work together and discover what may become the disruptive technologies of the future.
